Port of Santo Domingo

is located in the opening of the Ozama River and is the primary port of the Dominican Republic. The Ozama River runs through and divides Santo Domingo.

The port is protected by two sea walls that are constructed at both sides of the drainage of the river that form the port's dock. The port stretches out to the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad (Dominican Electric Company).

The input channel to the port is marked by lighted buoys and the center of the port is indicated by two towers which give a bearing of 047º. These towers are fixed with green-colored lights.

The canal has 500 feet of width between the buoys markers. At Latitude 18º 28´ North and Longitude. 69º 52´ West exists a lighthouse with a bean that reaches over 13 miles.

All commercial docks of the Port of Santo Domingo are located in the eastern part of the port. On the western part of the port are terminals for receiving petroleum and gasoline fuels. The Dominican Navy also occupies part of the western part of the port.

The Port of Santo Domingo's western side also houses the terminal for cruise ships and tourism.


Port Haina

is the principal industrial port of the Dominican Republic and is located at the opening of Haina River.

The harbor as well as the docks are protected by two jetties constructed at both sides of the input channel of the port. The port is located 14 miles northwest of Punta Palenque. At present the main products that are export from the Port of Haina are sugar and nickel. In the port's western bank are the Dominican Navy Yard repair workshops.

The input channel has depths between 28 and 3 feet. There are depths between 21 and 32 feet next to the docks.

The center of the input channel is indicated by two guiding towers that are constructed of steel, painted yellow and with green lights. The port channel is marked with lighted buoys.

The distance between the Port of Haina and the Port of Santo Domingo consist of coastline stretching east-northeast for approximately 8 miles. This stretch of coast consists of low, rocky shore line with only a few sand beaches.

The curve of the 100 Fathoms is less than 1 mile to the south.
