Geography

The Dominican Republic occupies the third part of the island La Hispaniola. This Geography position between Cuba and Puerto Rico has turned the island into one of principal tourist destination of the Caribbean and a great place for investments and commercial exchange.

The capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo, Other important cities are: Santiago, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Barahona, La Vega, San Francisco and Higuey.

The Dominican Republic has ha great geography diversity, having extensive beaches of while sand, fertile valleys with exuberant vegetation, desert zones with dune formations, mighty mountain chains. highest peak is Pico Duarte and lake biggest lake in the Caribbean.

Climate

The climate is semitropical, with an average temperature per year of 26ºc (78ºF). The principal natural resorce in Dominican Republic is the agricultural. The fertile groud of the valley is situable for cultivation. The country has valuable niquel deposits, silver and gold.

Population

It is estimated that the population of inhabitasnts is about 7,8 millions, of whom the 60,5% lives in urban zone and the other 39,5 % at the rural zone.

Language and Religion

Spanish is the official language of the country. The majority of the population is catholic.
